Ryan Companies adds Algonquin senior community to its portfolio

Construction at Clarendale of Algonquin, a $40 million senior living community, is moving along with completion expected this fall.

The project joins many facilities around the suburbs designed to address the needs of the growing senior community.

Minnesota-based Ryan Companies US Inc., with operations in Naperville, is the developer of the project. David Erickson, director of development at Ryan Companies, said the interest in Clarendale has been very strong with a number of prospective residents either making initial commitments or adding their names to a waiting list. "It confirms our belief that this area is underserved and a prime market for this high-quality senior living community," he said.

When complete, Clarendale of Algonquin will include 76 independent living units, 56 assisted living facilities and 54 memory care units. The concepts behind the Clarendale brand represent a blending of hospitality-based services and communities that offer convenience, camaraderie, security and connectedness.

The new facility is being built on 9.7-acres at 2001 W. Algonquin Road. Housekeeping, maintenance and transportation as well as restaurant-style and private dining are part of the plan, as well as a parking for 157 vehicles.

Life Care Services of Des Moines, Iowa, will manage the community. The Midwest-based senior living expert has brought customized senior living lifestyles to more than 35,000 residents across the U.S. in more than 125 communities.

Clarendale of Algonquin is one of three Clarendale senior living communities from developer-builder Ryan Companies and its project partners LCS and Harrison Street Real Estate Capital. The others include Clarendale of Mokena, a 156-unit community that opened in the fall of 2015 in Mokena and Clarendale of Schererville, a 177-unit community now under construction slated to open during the spring of 2017 in Schererville, Indiana.

Top award

Decorating Den Interiors of Libertyville has been awarded "Best of Customer Service" by Houzz, a home remodeling and design firm. The 28 year old interior design company was chosen by more than 35 million monthly unique users that comprise the Houzz community, from among more than one million active home building, remodeling and design industry professionals. The "Best of Houzz" award for customer service honors are based on several factors, including the number and quality of client reviews a professional received in 2015.

"We are honored and absolutely thrilled to have left such a positive impression on the community for our level of customer service," said Joan Suzio, owner of Decorating Den Interiors.

Tooth fairy tied to the economy

Not even the Tooth Fairy is spared from the effects of Wall Street tumult. For the second consecutive year the Tooth Fairy has left Illinois children with an average amount per tooth that's below the national average. According to The Original Tooth Fairy Poll, sponsored by Naperville-based Delta Dental of Illinois, the Tooth Fairy leaves $2.71 per tooth in Illinois, down slightly from the national average of $3.91 and last year's Illinois average of $2.89.

The Original Tooth Fairy Poll has typically served as a good indicator of the economy's overall direction, tracking with the movement of Standard & Poor's 500 index for 12 of the past 13 years. This year, however, the Tooth Fairy must have been using predictive analytics as the market continues to take losses beyond the 8.2 percent drop during the time the survey was conducted compared to 2014.

Children in Illinois receive a bonus from the Tooth Fairy for the loss of their first tooth, profiting an average of $4.63 to mark the occasion.
