Island Lake emergency clinic opening larger facility in town

With business booming, an Island Lake medical clinic is set to relocate to a new - and much larger - facility in the same part of town.

Dr. Reginald Ebirim and Dr. Eberechukwu Ibe were joined by village leaders and other supporters Friday for a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site of Lake Immediate Care & Clinic.

The clinic will move to 521 Kora Lane, across Route 176 from the current facility at 452 W. State Road.

Mayor Charles Amrich was among the village officials who congratulated the doctors on the businesses' success Friday morning.

Island Lake is predominantly a residential community, so the construction of a business that brings jobs to town is cause for celebration, Amrich said.

"Anytime you can provide (local) jobs, that's a good thing," Amrich said.

Ebirim and Ibe co-own the medical business but rent its current space. They will own the new building.

The 1,300-square-foot storefront the clinic has occupied since 2012 is too small to properly serve its patients, Ebirim said.

The new facility will be a 3,500-square-foot, stand-alone building that will have more room for equipment, medical procedures such as X-rays, and privacy, Ebirim said.

Ibe said the business' rapid growth is "kind of like a dream."

"I'm going to have to wake up one of these days," he said.

Construction already has begun. The new clinic is expected to be ready for patients in November.

The current clinic will remain open while the new one is being built.

As the doctors and village officials posed for photographs Friday, construction workers busied themselves around the foundation of the new building.

Amrich is happy the clinic is staying in town. The nearest hospitals - Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Barrington and Centegra Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry - both are long drives for Island Lake residents who might need a doctor fast, he said.

"It (provides) a service that the residents need," Amrich said.
