LA Fitness, other new businesses opening in Arlington Heights

A host of new businesses, including a 50,000-square-foot LA Fitness, are coming to Arlington Heights soon.

The new health club, at 345 E. Palatine Road in the Town & Country shopping center, is expected to open in about three weeks, according to general manager Syed Shah.

Crews have been working for months to renovate the space left vacant by Ashley Furniture HomeStore in October 2015. The new fitness center will include a heated 25-yard swimming pool, basketball court, day care center and group fitness studios for yoga, Pilates and kickboxing, among other activities, Shah said.

That's not to mention state-of-the art equipment such as cycling machines and free weights throughout the facility, he said.

Just up the road at the Annex of Arlington shopping center, Goldfish Swim School is planning a summer 2017 opening, officials announced this week.

Located in a 8,300-square-foot space once occupied by the West Marine boat store at 63 W. Rand Road, the swim school will offer lessons for children ages 4 months to 12 years, weekly family swims and parties. The school will have an air-conditioned viewing gallery for parents to watch lessons, family dressing area with private changing rooms, snack bar and retail shop, according to a news release.

The Arlington Heights location is one of five new Chicago-area Goldfish schools opening in 2017. Current locations are in Mundelein, Evanston, Burr Ridge, St. Charles, Naperville, Plainfield and Chicago.

In downtown Arlington Heights, there are two new businesses.

Woodcrafters DIY Studio recently opened at 28 S. Evergreen Ave., where visitors can make personalized wood signs and crafts, and bring in food and drink.

It's a similar concept to other downtown businesses that "offer an experience," such as Thrown Elements Pottery and Bottle & Bottega, said Michael Mertes, the village's business development coordinator.

Opening soon is Jaunt, a retailer at 131 W. Wing St., which will offer furniture, accessories, and artwork from around the world, Mertes said.

Last Friday, Armand's Pizzeria officially opened its new, larger location at 101 W. Campbell St., where Circa 57, a 1950s-style diner, closed last year.

Mertes said Armand's owners bought that building, after they had been leasing their previous location down the block at 70 N. Vail Ave. No tenants have been lined up for that spot.
