Buffalo Grove holds public meeting on Lake Cook Corridor

The Village of Buffalo Grove is holding the first public meeting for the Lake Cook Corridor Market Study and Plan on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

The project, which was kicked off in late 2016, is exploring how the village can best reposition the corridor to optimize growth potential. It will examine corridor development scenarios aimed at improving the village's identity and vitality, in addition to economic and fiscal sustainability.

The consulting team is led by Hellmuth, Obata, and Kassabaum, who will facilitate the meeting. The team will present the corridor's attributes, explain the study's goals and invite the public's feedback. P

"This is a key meeting to introduce the public to the project and gather community input," said project leader Domenic Salpietra of HOK.

Buffalo Grove Village President Beverly Sussman encourages all residents, business owners and other interested parties to participate in this process.

"This is a plan that will ultimately benefit our entire community, and input from everyone is essential to achieve the best possible outcome," she said.

The Lake-Cook corridor is important to Buffalo Grove and the region. It encompasses more than 472 acres of land and includes more than one million square feet of commercial /office space, residential dwellings, and the village's municipal campus and golf course.

The corridor also serves as a gateway to the village as it connects to the regional network of expressways, highways and other major roads. More than 40,000 vehicles travel on Lake-Cook Road every day, making it one of the most utilized and visible roads in the region.

The Lake Cook Corridor Market Study and Plan is expected to be completed by the end of 2017. It is a key action step in the village's 2016 Economic Development Strategic Plan.

The meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, at the Buffalo Grove Village Hall, 50 Raupp Blvd. All residents, business owners, property owners, community leaders, and other stakeholders are invited to participate.
