Tackling lake water quality in Lake County

A recent assessment shows water quality is impaired in 60 of the lakes in the Des Plaines River watershed, possibly caused by pollution that flows from upstream or surrounding land areas, or by lake management practices that could be improved.

The water quality of area lakes will be among the topics of a meeting of the Des Plaines River watershed group from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at the Lake County central permit facility, 500 W. Winchester Road, Libertyville.

Mike Adam, senior biologist from the Lake County Health Department, and an expert panel of lake associations and committees will discuss practices to best manage their lakes, and opportunities for improvements.
