Oak Brook chamber highlights year's events, presents awards

OAK BROOK - An overview of the past year's advocacy and economic development work over the past year, presentation of the 2017 board of directors and a special keynote presentation by JoAnna Sohovich, CEO of The Chamberlain Group, were all highlights of the Greater Oak Brook Chamber of Commerce's recent annual meeting and Awards Breakfast at the Marriott Oak Brook Hotel.

The chamber also presented information about its new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Bridge Partnership, a unique program developed over the past year that matches young business professionals from member companies with at-risk students interested in pursuing in-demand STEM careers. In its initial launch, young leaders from Ace Hardware, GEA Architects, Terracon Construction, SWC Technology, and Northwestern Mutual will work together to simulate real-world work activities with students from Willowbrook High School. These projects expose them to not only the technical application of skills within their field, but also crucial career-readiness skills.

The Chamber also presented new Under 40 Leadership Recognition Awards to Shannon Kelly, Ace Hardware, and Andrew T. Smith, Leaders Bank. The Chamber's Champion for Young Professionals Award was presented to Northwestern Mutual; the Model Workplace Award was presented to Tidal Commerce; and the Exceptional Service Award was presented to The Hyatt Lodge.
