Kildeer Village Square opens with Nordstrom Rack, DSW

Nordstrom Rack and Designer Shoe Warehouse kicked off Thursday's opening of a new mall on Rand Road in Kildeer.

Other stores will gradually debut at the 200,000-square-foot Kildeer Village Square. Nike, F21 Red and Sierra Trading Post are some of the retailers committed to the mall, developed by Chicago-based Bond Companies, that also will have an Uncle Julio's Mexican restaurant.

Kildeer Mayor Nandia Black and Chief Village Officer Michael Talbett were part of the Thursday morning crowd at Nordstrom Rack and DSW.

Talbett said the village worked to get Bond interested in the collection of vacant properties on Rand Road, across the street from Deer Park Town Center. The new mall fills a gap that had been between Bond's Kildeer Marketplace to the south and Shops of Kildeer on the north.

"This didn't just happen," Talbett said. "It was a five-year effort. And it's so great to see it up and people here."

Arlington Heights resident Anthony Passanante was among the early Nordstrom Rack shoppers. He said plans to shift his purchasing from the Nordstrom Rack near Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg to Kildeer Village Square because of the new center's easy access.

"We've got the other mall across the way," Passanante added, "so you can pretty much get what you need over here."

DSW moved from the Quentin Collection on Rand Road in Kildeer south to the village's new mall. DSW district manager Lester Giedrojc said Kildeer Village Square was attractive because of the tenant mix and greater visibility by being closer to Rand Road.

Bond Companies Executive Vice President Damon Dance, who visited the Nordstrom Rack and DSW for Thursday's openings, said at least 20 stores are expected to occupy Kildeer Village Square. Ground for the new mall was broken April 28, 2016.

"Within 12 months, from breaking ground, it's going to have five anchor tenants open, which is pretty fast and almost unheard of when it comes to retail construction, especially for a power center in the suburbs," Dance said.
