Aurora bureau celebrates 30 years

The Aurora Area Convention & Visitors Bureau celebrated 30 years of promoting tourism at its 30th Anniversary Celebration Thursday night.

The event was held at the J.A. Air Center at the Aurora Municipal Airport in Sugar Grove.

Thirty years ago, the communities of Aurora, Montgomery, North Aurora and Sugar Grove came together to establish the bureau in order to attract visitors to the region. At the celebration, the current mayors of the "original four" communities honored the AACVB by signing a ceremonial resolution recognizing the 30th anniversary of the organization and its contribution to economic development, revitalization, and social prosperity in the Aurora area.

Cort Carlson, executive director of the AACVB, presented the resolution to Mayor Richard C. Irvin of the City of Aurora; President Matt Brolley of the Village of Montgomery; President Dale Berman of the Village of North Aurora and President Sean Michels of the Village of Sugar Grove.

"The Aurora Area CVB is proud to celebrate 30 years of tourism and economic growth. We look forward to the next chapter of our organization as we continue to serve the communities of the Aurora Area," Carlson said.

The resolution noted the establishment of the Aurora Area Sports Alliance as a sports marketing brand, as well as the growth of local tourism into a $165 million industry, generating $3.2 million in local tax receipts.

J.A. Air Center, Aspen Lane Wine Company and Two Brothers Artisan Brewing - owners of Two Brothers Roundhouse in Aurora - sponsored the event.
