Carol Stream chamber director resigns

Luanne Triolo Newman is leaving her job as executive director of the Carol Stream Chamber of Commerce when she moves to Texas next week.

Newman said her husband, who is in logistics, took a job for Schlumberger, a large oil and energy company in the Houston area. Newman, 61, said she is interviewing for jobs in Texas, hoping for a chamber position.

She was named executive director of the 271-member Carol Stream Chamber 14 years ago after being on the board of directors. Active in the community, Newman has been a 37-year resident of Carol Stream where she and her husband raised three children.

"I have absolutely loved working with the businesses and individuals in Carol Stream. The 'chamber life' can be demanding but it's always been a favorite of mine," said Newman, whose last day is today. "Connecting businesses to each other is very rewarding," she said.

She added that she has enjoyed the work she has done. "I will miss the strong sense of community here," she said, adding that people step up when someone is in need. For example, she pointed to the 18 tons of food that was collected for the Rotary Food Pantry. She said she will look for a Rotary Club in her new hometown.

Newman said she will not miss the cold winters here and will be closer to family and her 9-year-old granddaughters - identical twins.

Meanwhile, the board of directors will list the job in the next month and begin speaking to applicants in March. Jane Hove of Bloomingdale has been chosen by the board to be the interim director. Hove was president/CEO of the Bloomingdale Chamber for nine years. For the past two years she has run her own consulting firm.
