Report: 2,317 suburban workers to lose their jobs
Suburban companies are expected to cut 542 workers in the upcoming months, according to state documents. Another 1,775 suburban workers will be cut with the previously announced closure of Carson's stores.
The suburban cuts are part of the jobs being eliminated at a handful of local companies, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, or WARN, reports that were recently released. Businesses file WARN reports to give the state notice of the layoffs. The reports are issued monthly. Often the companies are consolidating offices or facilities, resulting in layoffs.
Suburban companies on the report include:
• Durham School Services, a bus and motor vehicle transit system company, said it is closing and letting 152 workers go in Naperville. The company at 332 Fort Hill Drive reported that the employees will work through the end of June.
• Food service contractor Aramark Facility Services LLC at Lake Forest College Dining will lay off 81 workers. The report said the company at 555 N. Sheridan Road in Lake Forest lost a contract.
• Acceptance Auto Insurance, an insurance agency, is closing and will lay off 52 workers this summer. The company is at 901 Parkview in Lombard.
• DeZurik, doing business as APCO Acquisition Company, is relocating and will lay off 61 workers over the next year. The industrial valve manufacturing firm is at 1420 Wright Blvd. in Schaumburg.
• Swap.com Inc., an electronic shopping and mail-order house, said it will lay off 196 workers for financial reasons. The company is at 850 Veterans Parkway in Bolingbrook.
• West Liberty Foods at 525 Crossroads Parkway in Bolingbrook said it is closing but would not provide how many workers will be affected.
Meanwhile, another 1,775 jobs are being eliminated with the closing of Carson's stores. Carson's, a one-time Chicago retail institution, said last month that it will close its remaining stores as a result of a bankruptcy sale of its parent company to a pair of liquidation firms.
A federal bankruptcy court approved the sale of Carson's parent company, Milwaukee-based Bon Ton Stores Inc., to Great American Group and Tiger Capital Group.
Locally, jobs will be lost in Chicago Ridge, 207; Evergreen Park, 134; Lincolnwood, 135; Lombard, 220; Mount Prospect, 192; Naperville, 61; Norridge, 214; North Riverside, 159; Orland Park, 311 and Wilmette, 142.
