Dining out: Michael Jordan's, Texas de Brazil fete anniversaries with specials

$1.23 Happy Hour

Michael Jordan's Restaurant is celebrating turning 1 by offering its Happy Hour menu items for $1.23 during the month of July. Come in from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for mini steak sandwiches; wings with honey barbecue or Valentina hot sauce served with slaw; creamy bacon and onion dip; focaccia topped with fresh mozzarella, Parmesan and heirloom cherry tomatoes; calamari with crispy lemon and a duo of dipping sauces; and the signature Little Mike Burgers. Also, there are new summer-inspired dishes on the dinner menu, including pan-roasted salmon with poblano creamed corn and grilled chicken paillard with a summer vegetable salad. Texas de Brazil Churrascaria is starting its 20-year anniversary celebration in July (the actual anniversary is in October). Which means that every Monday in July, desserts will cost only 20 cents with the purchase of a meal. In addition, the restaurants have added a lamb picanha, which will be carved tableside by the gauchos, and the Sante Fe Brazilian Salad will be available in the salad area. Plus, Happy Hour drink specials include $5 caipirinhas, $5 glasses of Texas de Brazil Private label wine and more. Revamped and ready

Eaglewood Resort & Spa recently renovated Prairie River Restaurant with cuisine developed by executive chef John Billings. Boasting an intimate outdoor patio and a grand fire pit plus golf course views from inside the dining room, Prairie River serves American cuisine featuring dishes such as buffalo shrimp flat bread, poutine, Chicago Stockyard rib-eye roll, chili roasted yard chicken, fish fry lefse chimichanga, seared chili maple salmon and more from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Handcrafted cocktails and a large selection of local brews are on tap in the bar, which is open until 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday. Prairie River also hosts a free Sounds of Summer concert series on Fridays and Saturdays through September. JT James Acoustic plays Friday, July 6, and The Wind Gypsys plays Saturday, July 7. Party by the water

Every day is a party at Barrington's Broken Oar. Mondays are Dine With Your Dog, which includes $3 burgers and beers. Starting at 5 p.m. Tuesdays, it's Car & Bike Show night hosted by Steve Salzman of 95.1 WIIL Rock. Luau Wednesdays feature hula dancers, fire twirlers and Hawaiian food, drinks and music starting at 7 p.m. Thirstday Thursdays bring $1 drafts and $2 craft drafts, with DJs starting at 9 p.m. Come back Friday through Sunday for live outdoor music. Flat Bread & Wine Wednesdays

Starting at 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Preservation Bread & Wine fires up the oven for flatbread pizza night, featuring five gourmet flatbreads and four different wines for just $20 a bottle. Choose from flat breads topped with goat cheese, arugula, sun-dried tomatoes, Gruyere, eggplant, sweet Italian sausage and more. Preservation Bread & Wine is at 513 S. Chill out at Perry's

Perry's Steakhouse & Grille is now offering three new signature cocktails for summer: Lemon Bubbles (Pierre Ferrand 1840 Cognac, Limoncello and fresh lemon juice), Bourbon Bloom (Woodford Reserve Bourbon, St. Germaine Elderflower, fresh lemon juice, and muddled mint leaves and blackberries) and Peachy Glen (Belvedere Peach Nectar Vodka, Glenmorangie 10 Year, fresh lemon juice and stone fruit). The drinks are $15 each.

Perry's location in Oak Brook is turning 5. To celebrate, diners can enjoy four courses for $44 during July. Choose from personal-size appetizers such as signature fried asparagus topped with jumbo lump crab meat, Beef & Bleu, pork chop bites or homemade Polish sausage. Salads include traditional Caesar, Butcher's Chop, kale with jalapeño mint vinaigrette or a wedge salad. For entrees, pick from a 6-ounce filet; chargrilled salmon served with lemon dill butter and cauliflower mousse; Perry's Famous Seven-Finger-High Pork Chop; or chicken Oscar. Going straw-free

During July, the O'Toole's Pub Group is participating in a worldwide campaign to reduce the use of plastic straws in its restaurants. Straws will be provided to dining and bar guests only upon request. These efforts go along with the pubs' straw-free water service, which began in July 2017.
