Elk Grove spending $3.2 million on land for new fire station

Elk Grove Village has agreed to spend $3.2 million on land for a new fire station and training facility near the intersection of Landmeier and Tonne roads.

The village board Tuesday approved a deal to buy three acres owned by Continental Bindery Corp. at 700 Fargo Ave. The stationery and paper-binding manufacturer, which employs about 80 people, will relocate to an undisclosed site within the village, owner Timothy Hoffman said. Hoffman has operated the company at the building since 1989.

As part of the $100 million capital improvement program, Elk Grove 2025, the village plans to build the new station to combine the existing operations of fire stations at 1655 Greenleaf Ave. and 1000 Oakton St. The new station will be about 17,000 square feet and include a training tower.

The village's fire station and property on Oakton Street at the intersection with Lively Boulevard is being sold to a developer, who introduced plans Tuesday to build a technology park on the Busse Farm property.
