District 25 Greenbrier School addition cost: $6.4 million

The two-story, 8,280-square-foot addition planned at Greenbrier Elementary School in Arlington Heights will cost $6.4 million under a bid package approved by the Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 school board Thursday night.

The expansion would contain four classrooms, two small group spaces and two offices, along with converting the existing building's computer lab into a classroom, and renovating an odd-shaped classroom into two small group spaces. The district is paying another $2.7 million for other upgrades to the current building, including replacement of a section of roof, new lighting and life safety work.

The project, approved earlier this month by the village board, is expected to begin in mid-to-late October with completion the following August. It would be the fifth school addition since last year in District 25 due to burgeoning enrollment.
