Buffalo Grove's Plaza Verde West shopping center gets new name

Buffalo Grove's Plaza Verde West shopping center is getting a new name.

James Sayegh, whose Elmdale Partners bought the plaza nearly a year ago, said the center at 1315-1515 W. Dundee Road now will be called Grove's Edge.

"We are seeking to rebrand, because it is confusing being Plaza Verde West," Sayegh said. "We're kind of the stepchild of Plaza Verde."

Built in 1971, the shopping center consists of four single-story buildings and one two-story building on about 6.6 acres near the southwest corner of Dundee and Arlington Heights roads.

Gerald Callaghan, the developer's attorney, outlined some of the plans for the center at Monday's meeting of the Buffalo Grove village board. He said Elmdale Partners have done a great deal to improve the property, including new paving and major roof repairs.

Problematic tenants have been rid of and good tenants retained, he said.

"We do appreciate the fact that they are improving the property," Village President Beverly Sussman said.

Elmdale is working with the village on plans for the signage, which will eliminate some confusion for visitors.

"If you have an appointment at a doctor's office in Plaza Verde West, if you go in where Starbucks and Noodles & Company are, you have quite a long way until you find where you're actually going," Callaghan said.

In the past year, one very successful tenant, No Escape, has been added. And State Farm Insurance recently moved in.

"We're pretty happy with our roster," Sayegh said.
