Kildeer village president belts out community update

Kildeer Village President Nandia Black's singing allowed her to steal the show at the annual Barrington Area Chamber of Commerce economic summit this week.

In addition to Kildeer, officials from the six Barrington communities, Deer Park, Long Grove and Tower Lakes gave economic updates and addressed other issues during the well-attended Wednesday morning gathering at Barrington's White House on Main Street.

Black captured the crowd's attention when she touched on the village's 2017 commercial development highlights by singing her version of "December 1963 (Oh, What A Night)" by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.

"Oh, what a year. 2017 was in Kildeer. A lot of businesses opened here. And I remember what a year.

"Oh, what a year. Kildeer Village Square is our newest mall. It opened to great fanfare in the fall. What a coup, what a year.

"Oh, what a year. "Oh, I, I got a happy feeling when we saw the revenue. Oh, I, from Nordstrom Rack to DSW Shoes.

"Oh, what a year! Art Van Furniture and Nike Store. Orange Theory, CycleBar and more. Sweet returns, what a year."

Barrington attorney Keith Hanson, who moderated the economic summit for the chamber, drew laughs when he acknowledged Black for the entertainment before moving on to the next speaker, Deer Park Trustee Greg Rusteberg.

"Thank you, Nandia. I understand you'll be appearing here all week," Hanson quipped.
