Rolling Meadows council rezones most of Dominick's site

Rolling Meadows aldermen voted 5-2 this week to rezone much of the former Dominick's property in the city's downtown from commercial to residential. It was the same tally as a Jan. 23 vote on the project.

The second reading vote Tuesday paves the way for developer Ryan Homes to construct a 113-rowhouse development on the rear 9.5-acre portion of the site at 2819-2915 Kirchoff Road. But two more council votes are needed since the developer has submitted only a preliminary application for the project.

Alderman Joe Gallo, of Ward 4 where the property is located, voted "no" for the rezoning, arguing more than a front 1.5-acre portion should be retained for potential commercial uses. Other aldermen have said they're comfortable with the plans because of waning interest in the market from commercial users.
