Dimucci mall plan talk delayed

As expected, Lake County's zoning board of appeals on Wednesday postponed a planned public discussion on the controversial plans for the Dimucci family property near Hawthorn Woods.

The schedule change was prompted by a request from Lake County administrators, who want to take time to speak with officials from Hawthorn Woods and North Barrington regarding their concerns about the plan.

The board granted the request despite objections from activists and residents concerned about the proposal.

The zoning board listened for about three hours last week as the Dimuccis and their consultants laid out their plan for the unincorporated site. Opponents of the plan were expected to cross-examine the speakers Wednesday.

The Dimuccis want the vacant, 109-acre property on the corner of Route 12 and Old McHenry Road to be rezoned so a shopping center can be built there. A developer is not yet aboard.

The zoning board now is set to discuss the matter at 5 p.m. Aug. 15 at Concorde Banquets in Kildeer, the same setting for all of the recent public discussions.

The proposal already has been rejected by the Lake County Regional Plan Commission, which — like the zoning board — advises the Lake County Board. The county board will have final say on the request.
