Andy's Frozen Custard opening multiple stores in Northwest suburbs

Just in time for summer, Andy's Frozen Custard will open new stores in Mount Prospect, Naperville and Oswego, and is in negotiations to open several other locations around the suburbs by the end of this year.

The popular dessert-only restaurant, which sells an array of frozen custard mixers and sundaes, already has four South suburban locations plus one in Evanston. In June, the chain will add an Oswego store at 1272 U.S. Route 34 (Ogden Ave).

In July, stores will open in Mount Prospect and Naperville. The Mount Prospect store is planned for 205 E. Rand Road, which is south of Randhurst. The Naperville store will be in Naperville Crossing, near the intersection of 95th and Route 59.

Company spokeswoman Donna Scherner said the company is also looking to open stores in Schaumburg, Elgin, Glen Ellyn, Downers Grove and Orland Park.

While there are other custard shops in the suburbs, Andy's is the largest chain in the country that sells only frozen custard. The Springfield, Missouri-based business has 30 locations in five states.

When asked what's attracting the chain to the Chicago suburbs, Scherner said the owner admires a city that's "passionate about its food."

"Andy's makes its frozen custard fresh every hour, so you're getting the freshest frozen custard imaginable," Scherner said.
