The Northern Illinois University College of Business has named Balaji Rajagopalan as its next dean.

Rajagopalan, who currently serves as the head of the Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend, will assume his new role at NIU on July 1. He also holds the Toudy Chair in Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

At the Black School of Business his accomplishments include adding online programs in finance and marketing; creating a hybrid MBA program that combines classroom and online learning; and implementing a professional development program for undergraduate students.

Over the past two decades, Rajagopalan also established a reputation for his success in developing international collaborations, particularly with universities in Germany, India, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. He also has cultivated relationships with a number of Fortune 500 companies including General Motors, Chrysler, Ford, CSC, Federal Express and Caterpillar.

"Dr. Rajagopalan's documented success at promoting academic excellence, interdisciplinary program development and faculty diversity will benefit the university," says NIU Executive Vice President and Provost Lisa Freeman. "His collaborative leadership style will engage faculty, students, staff and alumni in defining the future of the College of Business."

Rajagopalan's expertise is in how firms and communities leverage information technologies in their business strategies, new product development, innovative service offerings, and organizational processes.
