Conference to focus on safety, health and environment

The Chicagoland Safety, Health & Environmental Conference is being held September 19-22, 2016 at the Naperville campus of NIU. Founded in 1988, this once a year, 4-day training conference has provided professional training to thousands of people from the Chicagoland area and across the Midwest. Business owners, professional and civic association members, managers, safety committee members, human resources managers, municipalities, and others who have responsibilities related to safety, health, training, environmental management and OSHA/EPA compliance attend this premier training conference. The conference is sponsored by local chapters of the American Society of Safety Engineers, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the Alliance of Hazardous Materials Professionals and is planned in association with OSHA, the National Safety Education Center, and the NIU College of Engineering and Engineering Technology. Media partners include Industrial Hygiene News, Professional Safety Journal and the Daily Herald Business Ledger.

The Chicagoland Safety, Health & Environmental Conference offers a wide range of training topics relating to General Safety, Environmental Management, OSHA Compliance, Industrial Hygiene and Professional Development. Training sessions are 1.5 hour, 3 hour or all day and provide Basic, Intermediate and Advanced levels of training. Training sessions include Introduction to OSHA for Small Business, Attack in the Heartland, Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards, Temporary Workers, Working with Workers Comp, OSHA Recordkeeping, Clean Air Act, Active Shooter, Medical Marijuana in the Workplace, Imposter Syndrome, OSHA 10 Hour for General Industry in English and Spanish, the Yin and Yang of Ergonomics, Shipping Hazardous Waste, 1st Aid/CPR/AED, Managing Soil and Groundwater Cleanups in Illinois, What to Expect from OSHA in 2016 Civil and Criminal Liability, and Fleet Safety. In total, more than 80 training sessions are being offered this year. The conference website www.chisafetyconf.org includes a complete list of all of the training sessions. Training session presenters include OSHA Compliance Assistance Specialists, a Chemical Security Inspector from the US Department of Homeland Security, a retired Army Major, university professors, lawyers, professional trainers, business and industry professionals, business owners and others who have extensive knowledge and experience.

A day long Business Expo and evening networking social on Wednesday provide attendees with a showcase of the latest products and services offered by businesses from all across the US. On Thursday, the keynote address will be provided by Dr. Wes Scott, Director of Consulting Services for the National Safety Council. Dr. Scott has over 30 years of experience in engineering, environmental, biomedical, industrial hygiene and occupational safety and health fields. He will also conduct a training session on Safety Leadership and Engagement.

The conference week concludes with the Chicagoland EHS Golf Outing on Friday September 23, 2016. This annual event is again being held at the Village Greens of Woodridge Golf Course. The Best Ball format provides a great way for golfers and nongolfers alike to have fun, win prizes and network with conference attendees who enjoy golf and sharing stories.
