Grillhouse By David Burke in Schaumburg closes

Grillhouse By David Burke, the second effort at a restaurant in the sprawling, 22,000-square-foot building originally occupied by Entourage at 1301 American Lane in Schaumburg, closed this week.

Schaumburg's Economic Development Manager Matt Frank said that while there were no immediate leads, the time had possibly come to quit attempting a single tenant's use of the extraordinarily large building with less than ideal visibility from nearby Meacham Road.

He added that the similarly oversized space once occupied by the Prairie Rock Brewing Company in the Woodfield Village Green shopping center at 1385 N. Meacham Road is now being successfully shared by Wildberry Pancakes & Cafe and Westwood Tavern.

The site also could potentially be shared by a restaurant and banquet hall, or devote its upper-floor space to offices, he said.

Grillhouse - fronted by celebrity chef David Burke - provided hope of a second lease of life for the former Entourage building when it opened in late 2014.

By that time, the building had been vacant for almost as long as the 4½ years it had been occupied by Entourage, from February 2006 to August 2010.

Though just west of Woodfield Mall, the imposing building's visibility has always been obscured by that of Weber Grill Restaurant, which lies right at the corner of Meacham Road and American Lane.

Burke contacted the Daily Herald in July to say that he was no longer involved in the restaurant and was trying to get his name taken off it.

A representative of David Burke's Primehouse in Chicago - which is still open - said Friday that it no longer was affiliated with Burke and had never been affiliated with the Schaumburg restaurant.

Burke could not be reached for comment Friday. Neither could the current ownership.
