Nordstrom Rack opens Thursday in Algonquin

The new Nordstrom Rack store along the Randall Road corridor in Algonquin is celebrating its grand opening early Thursday morning.

The public is invited to join in on the grand opening fun at the 31,000-square-foot store, which sells top brand products at lower prices than you would find in a regular Nordstrom store.

The store is at 1808 S. Randall Road, in the Algonquin Commons Shopping Center, just north of Dick's Sporting Goods and to the south of Trader Joe's.

The celebration begins at 8 a.m. Thursday with a Rally at the Rack. There will be a DJ, music, coffee and breakfast pastries and treats for customers.

Every customer age 18 and older can enter for a chance to win one of 30 $100 gift cards to the new store. One customer will win a $1,000 shopping spree, and early access to shop at the store.

The "Rule the Rack" winner will be chosen at 8:25 a.m. Thursday and get a chance to begin shopping.

Doors to the new store open to the general public at 9 a.m. Thursday.

The first 1,000 customers who make a purchase at the new Nordstrom Rack will receive a complimentary Nordstrom Rack tote as a gift.

Nordstrom Rack is the off-price division of Nordstrom, which boats on-trend, of-the-moment clearance merchandise from Nordstrom stores and Nodstrom.com, as well as its own store-specific items.

The first Nordstrom Rack opened in downtown Seattle in 1973. The retailer then began to grow across the country, opening more and more stores in more states.

The new store in Algonquin Commons will be the retailer's 12th Chicago-area location.

Until now, the closest Nordstrom Rack location to shoppers along the Randall Road corridor was in Schaumburg.

The grand opening event along the Randall Road corridor for the new Algonquin store will take place in front of the business as long as the weather cooperates on Thursday.

Celebrating our pets:

The loss of a pet can be devastating for families.

To help remember the pets we've lost, the Wet Nose store along the Randall Road corridor in Geneva has been helping owners share their memories of their beloved furry friends.

Each week, the store at 1510 Commons Drive, in Geneva Commons, posts pictures on its Facebook page of pets that have crossed over the "rainbow bridge."

Owners often also post their own pictures of their pets and share them on the Wet Nose Facebook page.

Many who have gone through the same loss comment, and try to help out, knowing what it feels like. There is an online community on the site that tries to help each other through the loss.

Then every Monday, Wet Nose hosts a Candle Light Memorial online for pets that have passed.

Owners can email any pictures they would like added to the Rainbow Bridge album on the store's Facebook page to events@wetnose.com.
