Dining out: B.GOOD opens in Schaumburg, Shake Shack comes to Oak Brook

B.Good times two

Featuring natural and locally produced dishes, fast-casual restaurant B.Good is opening its second Chicago-area location at Woodfield Gatherings in Schaumburg. Starting Thursday, diners will be able to nosh on seasonal salads, bowls, sandwiches such as the eggplant meatball sub, burgers, fries, sides, smoothies and more. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. The other location opened at the end of October in Vernon Hills' Mellody Farm shopping center. B.Good is at 1721 E. Shake it up

Shake Shack - known for its Angus beef burgers, chicken sandwiches, griddled flat-top dogs, frozen custard, crinkle-cut fries and more - is opening its newest location at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in Oak Brook. The first 100 people in line will receive a custom Shake Shack beanie. The restaurant will donate 25 percent of proceeds from opening day to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. This location will be serving unique concretes such as the Pie Oh My (vanilla custard with a slice of Four & Twenty Blackbirds pie), Minted Magic (chocolate custard, minted marshmallow, chocolate truffle cookie dough and chocolate sprinkles) and Cookie Butter Blender (vanilla custard, cookie butter, chocolate toffee and chocolate sprinkles). Plus, enjoy brews from Half Acre, Old Style and Revolution Brewing. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Kona Grill recently added a bigger and better happy hour. Diners can now take advantage of $5 specials, from sushi rolls to a variety of starters, plus 20 craft cocktails and wines. The house margarita - served frozen or on the rocks - is only $1 from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Other specials include domestic draft beer for $2 and import and craft beer for $4. The new happy hour hours are 2 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 p.m. to close Monday through Saturday and all day Sunday. Lights and Lagers

What better way to experience Holiday Magic at Brookfield Zoo than with the new Lights and Lagers event from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30. Sip on 3-ounce beer samples from breweries such as Ballast Point, Blue Moon, New Belgium, Noon Whistle, Pilsner Urquell, Revolution Brewery, Tangled Roots Brewing Co., Tenth and Blake, White Claw and more while enjoying a sneak peek of the new light show. Tokio Pub in Schaumburg recently introduced Burgers & Brews on Wednesdays. Combine any of the three burgers - Sunrise, Eruption or the signature Ramen - with any of eight beers for $12. Pairing suggestions include the Sunrise Burger (Angus beef, Asian barbecue sauce, crispy pork belly, white cheddar and fried egg on a brioche bun) with Solemn Oath Snaggle Tooth Bandana; the Eruption Burger (fried Fresno chili peppers, tobanjan, chili oil and arugula on a brioche bun) with Revolution Brewing Co. Learn to cook

If you haven't checked out cooking classes at the North American Pizza & Culinary Academy in Lisle, now might be the time. At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, learn how to make holiday tamales, including how to make masa and steam and craft the fillings. The class is $82. Or consider the Winter Risotto Workshop at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6. Chef Cristiano Bassani, of Bapi Ristorante in Arlington Heights, will teach the class, which includes using the right rice, tools and technique. Participants will receive a bag of Viola Imports' Acquerello Carnaroli Rice to take home. Plan ahead for the family-friendly Gingerbread Decorating Party with Santa at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8.
