Sussman joins Ice Miller team

Ice Miller LLP welcomes Adam Sussman to the firm's Intellectual Property and Life Sciences groups.

He couples his technical background in synthetic organic chemistry with a passion for intellectual property law.

Sussman concentrates his practice on chemical, pharmaceutical and biotechnological patent prosecution and patent portfolio counseling. He works with clients on matters such as chemical compositions of matter, crystal forms, pharmaceutical formulations, dietary supplements, probiotics, methods of use of extracts, chemical product-by-process, medical devices, orthodontic systems and more.

He provides scientific analyses, applications and advocacy before the USPTO and EPO so as to efficiently seek patent protection for his clients' inventions. With years of experience in all phases of defensive Hatch-Waxman pharmaceutical patent litigation, Sussman now works with clients to minimize vulnerability of his clients' patent claims to affirmative defenses in prospective enforcement and/or challenges in post-grant proceedings.

His prosecution experience includes executing, analyzing and drafting client opinions on patentability and landscape searches, drafting and filing provisional and non-provisional (US & PCT) patent applications, preparing office action responses and helping to craft effective expert and inventor declarations. He has also corresponded with foreign agents on national prosecution of PCT patent applications and resolved outstanding objections and rejections through telephone interviews with examiners.
