Planmeca USA Inc, a manufacturer of dental equipment, will soon move into the recently vacated former Serta Mattress Co. building at 2600 Forbs Ave. in Hoffman Estates from smaller quarters in Roselle.
Hoffman Estates Mayor Bill McLeod said the village is pleased to welcome such a company to town, even more so because the 90,000-square-foot former Serta building on a 19-acre site ended up vacant for only three months.
"It won a lot of architectural awards, too," he added. "It took a long time to build."
Planmeca USA is leaving behind two adjacent buildings in Roselle that totaled 77,000 square feet.
McLeod said it is easy to understand why the company would make such a move.
"When you're a manufacturing company, you want to be under one roof," he said.
Under that one roof will be the company's U.S. headquarters, a testing and distribution center, a showroom and a training center.
The real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield represented Planmeca USA in the sale.
Cushman & Wakefield Associate Jeff Matella commented on the purchase in a written statement.
"This state-of-the-art facility is truly a masterpiece that offers expansion capabilities and is strategically located directly off the I-90 expressway within the prestigious Prairie Stone Business Park," Matella said. "Planmeca will execute all U.S. operations out of this facility while also providing an unparalleled experience for the clientele they will host in their new location."
Amber Henderson, Planmeca's office manager and executive assistant, also commented on the purchase in a written statement.
"We couldn't be happier with our new location and the consolidation of our U.S. operations under one roof," she said.
