Lynfred Winery celebrating 40 years

ROSELLE - Lynfred Winery is celebrating its 40th anniversary in October with an open house and the release of an exclusive wine.

Started in 1979 by Fred and Lynn Koehler, the winery has expanded from its humble beginnings. Credited as pioneers of the Illinois winemaking industry, the Koehlers sought to establish a family business where visitors would feel welcomed and appreciated.

Today, Chilean winemakers Andres Basso and Rodrigo Gonzalez maintain the quality and complexity of wines for which Lynfred has come to be known.

The winery will hold an open house from 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 14 in the wine cellar. A celebration of heritage and passion will be reveled with cake from the winery chefs, artisanal cheeses and Fred's Red, the wine created for namesake Fred Koehler.

Lineage, the wine created specifically for the winery's 40th celebration, will be released to the winery's wine club members on Oct. 11-20 at $40. "Only 302 cases were produced. Due to its high concentration of grape tannin, the wine possesses a full body that will benefit with years of aging" says Head Winemaker, Rodrigo Gonzalez.
