Steele named executive director of American Cancer Society

Peter J. Steele of Chicago has accepted the role of executive director for the state of Illinois for the American Cancer Society.

Steele's goal is to build relationships and partnerships across Illinois in support of the society's mission to save lives from cancer. Alongside a statewide team of staff and volunteers, Steele leads fundraising, mission and advocacy initiatives and engages local communities across the state. He also is in the process of building a new volunteer leadership board in Illinois to help implement and drive regional strategic growth initiatives.

Steele joins ACS from J at School, where he served as managing director for 6 years and as director of revenue and operations for 2 years before that.

He earned an undergraduate degree and a MBA from Northern Illinois University. Steele lives in the Old Town neighborhood of Chicago with his wife and daughter.
