Portillo's serves heart-shaped cake for mom's day

Portillo's is once again offering a special version of its famous chocolate cake just in time for Mother's Day.

Available in stores and for delivery, the special menu item can also be ordered through Portillo's online shipping and sent anywhere in the U.S.

The heart-shaped chocolate cakes are $15.99 and will be available for in-store pickup May 10-13. Customers can pre-order at portillos.com or by visiting a Portillo's store.

The cakes are available for nationwide shipping May 1-31. Priced at $39.99, shipped orders include one single-layer chocolate cake, spatula and do-it-yourself icing, according to the Oak Brook company.

In 1963, Dick Portillo invested $1,100 into a small trailer to open the first Portillo's hot dog stand in Villa Park, which he called “The Dog House.” Years later, Portillo's has grown to include restaurants in more than 50 locations across several states. Portillo's is best known for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches, chargrilled burgers, fresh salads and famous chocolate cake.
