An early look at Rosemont's first boutique hotel

Construction is about two-thirds done, but developers behind Rosemont's first "boutique" hotel on Tuesday were ready to show off what they've built so far.

The Rose Hotel, a five-story, 165-room hotel, is one piece of the village's $75 million The Pearl District mixed use complex taking shape south of Balmoral Avenue and west of the Tri-State Tollway.

It will be the 18th hotel in Rosemont, and the closest one to O'Hare International Airport - except for the Hilton located on airport property. The Rosemont hotel will be a part of Hilton's new Tapestry Collection brand, aimed at an upscale market segment of business and leisure travelers.

"Traveling can be thorny. Thankfully we have The Rose," quipped Micaela Haas, who was officially announced as the general manager at the sneak-peek event Tuesday.

Now that the building shell is up and under roof, crews with Power Construction are working on interior finishes, expected to include rooms decorated with contemporary art, 5,000 square feet of meeting space, a bar and fitness center.

The village gave Riverwoods-based developer Janko Group land for the building, and $3 million in tax increment financing district funds to help pay for construction financing costs. Rosemont set up the TIF in 2016, where property tax money above a certain amount is set aside for redevelopment rather than for local governments.

Construction of the hotel is estimated to be $40 million.

Officials say The Rose is the first new construction hotel in the Tapestry portfolio; the five other locations opened after renovations to existing buildings, including the adaptive reuse of a synagogue in Syracuse.

By comparison, the hotelier's Curio Collection, introduced in 2014, has aimed to attract the upper upscale market. The brand includes LondonHouse in downtown Chicago.

The Rose Hotel is scheduled to open in November, which follows the opening of Dave & Buster's at The Pearl last month, and the planned opening of Carmine's and Truluck's Seafood Steak & Crab House in late summer or early fall.
