Oscar Mayer Wienermobile rolls into Elmhurst

If you'd love to be an Oscar Mayer wiener, if that is what you'd truly like to be, then Friday afternoon in Elmhurst was a little bit of hot dog heaven.

That's when the iconic Oscar Mayer Wienermobile made the first of its summer stops in DuPage County with a visit to the Mariano's on North York Road where fans could take pictures, pick up some coupons and even get their own Wiener Whistle - hold the ketchup, please.

The Wienermobile has been traveling the highways and byways of the United States since 1936 and a visit with the crew - called hot-doggers - is always a chance to share some fun and puns.

And, of course, all you have to do is ask and those crew members - Cheyenne Pepper and Deli Fresh Kelli - will sing the Oscar Meyer song that will keep rolling through your head for, oh, the next day or so.

If you missed the Friday stop, but still relish the chance to check out the Wienermobile, you shouldn't feel like you're in a pickle: It'll be outside the Mariano's at 1300 S. Naper Blvd. in Naperville from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Sunday and in the Rolling Meadows July 4 parade.
