Redevelopment nears on Elk Grove motel site
A shuttered Elk Grove Village motel now owned by the village will undergo asbestos remediation ahead of its planned demolition and the expected redevelopment of the site.
The village purchased the Elk Grove Hotel at 1600 E. Oakton St. for $5.6 million last August, and is now spending $46,300 on pre-demolition asbestos and universal waste/hazardous building components abatement, under a contract approved this week by the village board. The building is expected to be ready for demolition Feb. 6.
Mayor Craig Johnson said village officials are "in advanced discussions" with a developer for the 318,000-square-foot site, and are expected to announce a project next month. The village purchased the property with an eye toward future redevelopment because of its location a half-mile from the planned $1 billion Elk Grove Technology Park.
