Chicago Marriott Schaumburg receiving $22 million renovation

The Chicago Marriott Schaumburg is undergoing a $22 million renovation this summer with the aim of making the 38-year-old, 398-room facility virtually the newest product among Schaumburg's 30 hotels.

Behind the project is joint owners Chicago-based Arbor Lodging Partners and Middleton Partners of Northbrook, which bought the hotel at 50 N. Martingale Road for $35.5 million in late January 2018.

Among the areas seeing remodeling are the lobby, indoor and outdoor pools, restaurant and bar, guest rooms and health club.

The project will introduce a large, flexible space called the Great Room with more than 300 seats and a full-service bar and restaurant. The renovation also provides the Chicago Marriott Schaumburg with one of the five upscale MClub Lounges the chain will have among its Chicago-area hotels.

The Schaumburg location will have 20,000 square feet of meeting and event space, allowing it to host anything from small business meetings to celebrations with up to 1,000 guests.

General Manager Andreo Girardi addressed the goals of the project in a written statement.

"It is exciting to be in the midst of such an extensive transformation of both our hotel and our community," he said. "We are elated to provide guests with a distinctly enhanced and welcoming destination in the heart of Schaumburg, whether they are locals or visiting from out of town. As the most newly renovated hotel in the area, it brings us great pride to invite everyone to enjoy a fresh take on modern amenities and style just outside of downtown Chicago."

Schaumburg village officials said the hotel's original construction was approved in 1981. It underwent minor alterations in 2012.

"We're very excited that this nearly 40-year-old full-service hotel is being upgraded," Economic Development Director Matt Frank said.

The renovation is expected to be completed during August, with an event sometime in September celebrating the end of the project.
