Starved Rock provides scenic getaways
Nestled in the middle of Starved Rock State Park is one of Illinois' hidden gems: Starved Rock Lodge & Conference Center. Surprisingly, both are 90 minutes or less from most Chicago suburbs. Whether you visit for leisurely getaway, corporate meeting or even a wedding, there's no place quite like Starved Rock. A visit to this historic hotel and state park is an experience. The lodge features 69 rooms and 21 cabin rooms on the property. The main portion of the Lodge was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. "Because the Lodge and cabins are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, we strive to maintain the historical integrity created by the CCC whenever updates and changes are made," said Sales Director Jenny Roulston. The hand-hewn furniture in the hotel, cabins and dining areas was replaced a few years ago by a company famous for repurposing old barn wood and century-old hardwoods. According to CEO Amy Trimble, "Our tagline: Starved Rock Lodge … where the past is always present helps us to keep this one-of-a-kind destination looking like yesteryear but feeling like 2019."
Trolley tours, guided hikes and water excursions on the Eagle I pontoon boat are among the many activities offered to visitors. Additional boat trips (which provide an amazing view of the park while cruising along on the Illinois River) have been added for fall.
Weddings bring brides and grooms to Starved Rock Lodge for an outdoor ceremony, followed by an indoor reception surrounded by the historic ambience of the Great Hall. The focal point of this pine-and-log lodge is the massive two-sided limestone fireplace.
Located near the Interstate 39 and Interstate 80 intersection, many families choose the Lodge for holiday gatherings. Thanksgiving and Christmas buffets are very popular choices to make celebrations easy for everyone. Reservations are necessary for all holiday buffets.
