Matsika, Bazakos join Ice Miller

Ice Miller recently welcomed two attorneys to the law firm.

• Onica Matsika has joined Ice Miller as an attorney in the firm's Business Law Practice.

She represents public and private companies, startups and nonprofits across various industries on corporate matters, including mergers & acquisitions, private equity and general corporate governance. Matsika advises clients on legal strategy, day-to-day operational issues and compliance with state and federal regulations. She regularly drafts, negotiates and executes acquisition, merger, employment, consulting, service, vendor and nondisclosure agreements and serves as outside general counsel. In addition, she has experience managing diligence teams and coordinating with special counsel on transaction matters.

Matsika earned her juris doctor with honors from Indiana University Maurer School of Law. While in law school, she served as managing editor of the Indiana Law Journal and Chief Justice of the Sherman Minton Advocacy Board, and she completed a judicial externship with the Hon. Ann Claire Williams of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.

• Maria Bazakos has joined Ice Miller as an attorney in the Real Estate Practice.

Bazakos guides clients through all aspects of real estate acquisitions and sales, from due diligence to title clearing and commercial leasing. She assists clients in the preparation and negotiation of various commercial real estate documents, including purchase and sale agreements, loan agreements, leases and lease amendments. In addition, Bazakos advises clients regarding the acquisition, financing, leasing, management and disposition of retail, industrial, office and other commercial properties.

Prior to joining Ice Miller, Bazakos also assisted clients with business and commercial transactions. She represented clients in a range of corporate matters, such as commercial lending, financing and sales and acquisitions of stock and other equity interests. She has experience negotiating primary and ancillary transaction documents like stock and asset purchase agreements, operating agreements and security agreements. Additionally, Bazakos advised commercial landlords and tenants in lease disputes and defaults, including litigation when necessary
