Rolling Meadows hotel renovations underway

Renovations are underway at the shuttered Holiday Inn on Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows as part of a $9 million redevelopment project.

Construction crews spent Wednesday removing old materials and lifting new materials to the roof of the nine-story building at 3405 Algonquin Road. They also were doing some siding work.

Plans calls for the 119-room former Holiday Inn to be converted to an Aloft hotel, while the attached two-story, 170-room portion centered around a "Holidome" will be broken off and converted into an assisted living/memory care facility. The assisted living project would be completed last as part of the phased redevelopment.

Meanwhile, the 5-story, 135-room Holiday Inn Express in the rear of the property has remained open during renovations into the hotel chain's Formula Blue Design concept.

The redevelopment effort was announced in 2017 as a way to increase occupancies at the aging hotels.
