Wheaton businesses advised to close until Friday

The Downtown Wheaton Association is recommending businesses close beginning at 9 p.m. Tuesday and reopen Friday morning as a precaution ahead of planned protests.

"We are following the lead of surrounding downtown communities, and while there are no immediate threats, we are erring on the side of caution," Executive Director Elle Withall wrote in a notice. "After discussions with our businesses and looking at what other communities have done, we feel this is the best proactive step to take at this time."

Some businesses may remain open. Before visiting, customers should call ahead to ensure the business is open and confirm their hours.
