Bill Walsh, a researcher in advancing steel development for pipeline and energy applications, is joining EN Engineering as chief metallurgist.
He rejoins the company after serving as program leader at ArcelorMittal Global R&D, researching applications and solutions, plates, energy, and infrastructure products. The position focused on advancing steel development for pipeline and energy applications.
Previously for EN Engineering, Walsh led the Metallurgical group providing client services for pipe and fitting specification and procurement, pipe mill quality audits, welding procedure development, component hydrotest and burst tests, failure analysis, finite element stress analysis, and fitness-for service assessments.
Walsh has been working in line pipe metallurgy, including research at Battelle on fatigue and fracture properties of line pipe steels, as a metallurgist working with Gene Smith at Natural Gas Pipeline Company of America, and most recently developing line pipe steels and characterizing properties at ArcelorMittal, an international steel manufacturer.
Walsh holds a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from Northwestern University, an MS in Metallurgical Engineering and a BS in Engineering Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
