Shirley Ryan AbilityLab opens clinic in Arlington Heights

Shirley Ryan AbilityLab opened its new daytime outpatient rehabilitation clinic on the north side of Arlington Heights this week, replacing a smaller one that closed in Wheeling.

The 11,500-square-foot clinic within the Arlington Ridge Office Center at 3215 N. Wilke Road is geared toward helping those recovering from stroke, spinal cord injury and now, COVID-19, return to an active life, officials said.

"With more space, our new facility will now be able to serve even more patients in the Northwest suburbs through best-in-class clinical care and state-of-the-art technology and therapeutic equipment," said Monica Santilli, clinical manager, in an announcement of the clinic's opening.

The new facility is 70% bigger than the old one in Wheeling. It includes an Activities of Daily Living Studio, where patients can practice everyday tasks, like cooking, a gait track harness system and an orthotics space, among other features.

The clinic will provide patients anywhere from two to six hours of daily therapy, two to five days a week. It's open to those age 14 and older.

The village board this spring granted Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, formerly known as the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, a land-use variation for the new clinic. Trustees also approved variations for parking and the height of a new 17-foot-tall canopy above the main entrance.
