Michael Durbin installed as 2021 secretary of the Chicago Dental Society

With more than 30 years of experience in orthodontics, Dr. Michael Durbin of Prospect Heights was recently installed as secretary of the Chicago Dental Society.

Durbin has been actively involved with the dental society for years, serving as vice president and treasurer, in addition to holding multiple leadership positions within the society's Northwest Suburban Branch, including the role of branch director.

As secretary, Durbin will play a critical role in supporting membership and driving attendance for the 156th Midwinter Meeting, taking place virtually Feb. 25-27, 2021. The Midwinter Meeting is the society's annual scientific meeting and one of the dental industry's premier events. Next year's virtual format will offer attendees access to courses taught by world-class speakers and today's leaders in dental innovation, live exhibits and networking opportunities with colleagues and friends, all from the comfort and convenience of their office, home or even on the go.

In addition to his leadership roles at CDS, Durbin recently served as president of the American Association of Orthodontists Donated Orthodontic Services Foundation and currently serves on the American Association of Orthodontists' Board of Trustees. He is also a member of the Midwestern Society of Orthodontists, Illinois Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association and the Illinois State Dental Society.

Durbin is also chair of the American Association of Orthodontists COVID-19 Task Force. Throughout his career, he has received fellowships from the International College of Dentists, American College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International. Durbin is also the recipient of the American Dental Association' 2015 President's Award and the Illinois State Dental Society's 2014 President's Award in recognition of his exemplary contributions to dentistry and the dental profession.

After graduating from Loyola University in Chicago, Durbin earned his dental degree and a Master of Science in orthodontics from the University of Illinois at Chicago College of Dentistry.

Durbin maintains a private orthodontic practice in Des Plaines and is also a partner at Associated Dental Specialists of Long Grove. He lives in Prospect Heights with his wife, Dr. Renee Pappas, who is also a dentist and CDS member. They have two children, Kristen and Peter, who are both second-year medical and dental residents, respectively.
