Jeep designers let imaginations run wild

Each spring, Jeep and Mopar bring out some of their most colorful creations, showing off the crop at the Easter Jeep Safari, an event held annually in Moab, Utah.

This year - the 53rd - is no different, with the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles brand showcasing a handful of hardy off-road concept and prototype haulers.

<h3 class="leadin">Wayout

If you're venturing way out into unknown terrain, the Wayout concept is just for you. It features a custom bed rack with integrated ladder and a rooftop tent, capable of sleeping two. There's exterior body armor and a body painted in a new Gator Green color. To extend its range and capability, the vehicle is equipped with two auxiliary fuel tanks integrated into the sides of the bed and an onboard air compressor system.

<h3 class="leadin">Flatbill

Jeeps and dirt bikes go hand in hand and the Flatbill concept is infused with tons of motocross influence. It's loud and rowdy appearance makes it the ultimate hauler for having fun with off-road toys. There's a vented carbon hood and high-clearance wheel flares that accommodate a 4-inch lift, 20-inch wheels and 40-inch tires. Around back, a pair of bikes are installed and easy to get out, thanks to dedicated ramps that are easy to install.

<h3 class="leadin">Five-Quarter

The Five-Quarter is a retooled military truck, ready for action in the modern motoring age. Inspired by a 1968 M-715, the heavy hauler was re-imagined with a full carbon-fiber front end and a new 6-foot aluminum bed. The convertible soft top has a 3.5-inch drop. Inside, there's new Wrangler seats. Other armaments for adventure include rock rails, LED halo lights, 40-inch tires and an upgraded suspension. In true shock-and-awe fashion, under the hood is a supercharged “Hellcrate” Hemi V-8 delivering more than 700 horsepower.

<h3 class="leadin">Gravity

Off-roading is all about getting out into nature and the open-air Gravity really speaks to that message. It boasts steel tube doors, a mesh sunbonnet, and like all Gladiators, a flip-down windshield. There's a 2-inch lift, 35-inch tires and rock rails. In the bed are cross rails and a cargo basket. The engine breaths easier thanks to a cold-air intake and cat-back exhaust system.

<h3 class="leadin">JT Scrambler

Jeep pumped up the retro on this far-out remix, re-imagining a throwback name and color scheme. Looking like its 1980s predecessor, this modern machine wears Punk'N Metallic Orange and Nacho body stripes and hood graphics. More tubular tie-ins come by the way of vintage amber-painted top, gnarly 17-inch bronze-colored slot wheels and a brown leather interior, highlighted by orange thread. The truck has been lifted 2 inches, allowing it to be fitted with massive 37-inch tires. There's also a spray-in bed liner with body-colored steel roll bar and tons of extra LED lights for trail-side illumination.

<h3 class="leadin">J6

The J6 concept is pure truck, being set up as a two-door rig and similar to what Jeep was building during the 1970s. The setup provides tons of cargo space, having a 6-foot bed box. There's a custom, body-colored, spray-in bed liner, matching the vehicle's Metallic Brilliant Blue paint. That hot hue pays homage to the look of Jeep's '78 Honcho pickup. The J6 gets off-road chops in the form of rock rails, a stinger bar and 37-inch tires, wrapped around wheels done up in a Brass Monkey copper finish. There's also blacked-out classic badging and a removable top.
