Hersey student wins 9th District Congressional App Challenge

Mount Prospect resident John Dattilo, a junior at John Hersey High School, was named the winner of the 9th District 2017 Congressional App Challenge.

The results were announced by U.S. Rep. Jan Schakowsky, the ranking member of the Energy and Commerce Committee's Digital Commerce and Consumer Protection Subcommittee.

The challenge provides an opportunity for young people to develop their programming skills.

The app he developed, DiaLog, is designed to assist individuals diagnosed with diabetes as they treat and manage the disease by helping them track blood sugar levels and calculate insulin dosages to match meals at restaurants or at home.

"I was very excited to see this young man use his knowledge and skills to address a problem affects thousands of my constituents and millions around the world," Schakowsky said in a news release. "I am excited to see what John goes on to do next."
