Schaumburg marketing 55 acres near its airport
A commercial real estate broker has sent out a bid notice for the 55-acre Murzyn-Anderson property near the southwest corner of Irving Park and Rodenburg roads, a site Schaumburg village officials decided last summer to sell.
Bids are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 13, to the village's broker, Entre Commercial Real Estate LLC in Arlington Heights.
In its brochure, the firm emphasizes the site's proximity to Interstate 390, Schaumburg Boomers Stadium, Schaumburg Regional Airport and the Schaumburg Metra station.
The village paid a total of $7.8 million for the land in three purchases in 2003, 2005 and 2007. At the time, officials envisioned the site as home to what could be one of Schaumburg's last big developments.
Though that's still the preferred option, the village may eventually consider multiple buyers if a single purchaser doesn't appear within a reasonable amount of time, officials said.
According to a village consultant, the site already contains about 23.6 developable acres without wetland mitigation. Development would require rezoning the land from its current agricultural classification, and utilities would need to be connected from neighboring properties.
