Mount Prospect adds free textile recycling to refuse collection

The village of Mount Prospect has begun offering textile recycling as part of weekly trash pickup. The village has partnered with Simple Recycling for the free service. No enrollment is necessary.

To kick-start the program, Simple Recycling mailed bags to all single family homes. Residents can set the bags at the curb for collection on their regular refuse collection day and the driver will leave replacement bags behind. Additional bags are available at the Public Works Department, 1700 W. Central Road, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, or online at simplerecycling.com/bag-request.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 85 percent of clothing ends up in the landfill with only 15 percent being donated. The village and Simple Recycling encourage those residents who traditionally donate clothing to charities to continue that practice.

For more information about the textile recycling program, visit the village's website, www.mountprospect.org/textilerecycling or contact the Public Works Department at (847) 870-5640.
