Bystronic to move HQ from Elgin to Hoffman Estates

Hoffman Estates officials Monday gave Elgin-based Bystronic Inc. the green light to move its North American headquarters to an 11-acre site on the north side of the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway, just west of the former AT&T corporate campus.

Bystronic, located at 200 Airport Road in Elgin since 2010, builds machines for the cutting and bending of sheet metal for other manufacturers.

The firm received unanimous approval for an approximately 163,000-square-foot building at 2200 W. Central Road that would include office, manufacturing, warehouse and showroom space for its products.

The new headquarters is expected to employ about 115 employees when completed and still have room on the site for future expansion.

"It's very exciting," said Bob St. Aubin, president of Bystronic's market division for North and South America. "It's a huge investment into this community. It's very high-tech."

The Elgin building being left behind is only about 48,000 square feet and employs between 35 and 40 people, he added. The new facility is expected to be completed and in operation next summer.

Rosemont-based Conor Commercial Real Estate proposed the overall project to subdivide the 37 western acres of the Huntington 90 Business Park into the 11.2-acre lot Bystronic will use, another 17-acre lot also available for development and an 8.5-acre outlot containing an existing detention pond.

Conor Commercial also will extend the existing Eagle Way on the north side of the site all the way south to Central Road.

Under Monday's approval, the extension of Eagle Way must be completed before the village will allow occupancy of the Bystronic building.

Conor and its parent corporation, The McShane Companies, still own the site but will sell it to Bystronic.

The site is immediately east of the existing Claire's Stores Inc. office complex and distribution center at 2400 W. Central Road.

Some site preparation had already begun at the landowner's own risk on 11 acres north of Central Road and the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway in Hoffman Estates ahead of Monday's approval for a new 163,000-square-foot North American headquarters for Bystronic Inc., currently based in Elgin.
