Popular burger restaurant Kuma's Corner is now serving the Slayer and other favorites at a second suburban location.
The new Kuma's made its public debut with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday at Mellody Farm in Vernon Hills. It's the latest addition to the $200 million mixed-use development on the northeast corner of Route 60 and Milwaukee Avenue.
Covering a 3,887-square-foot space, the Kuma's at Mellody Farm has the same heavy metal-themed burgers as the other locations. It's the fifth Kuma's location, with others on Golf Road in Schaumburg, Belmont Avenue and Fulton Market in Chicago, and Indianapolis. Kuma's plans its next eatery in Denver.
Launched in 2005, Kuma's is known for specialty burgers like the Slayer, a 10-ounce burger served on a bed of fries and topped with chili, caramelized onions, andouille sausage, cherry peppers, Monterey Jack cheese, scallions and anger sauce.
Guy Fieri, host of Food Network's "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives," added cachet to Kuma's by featuring the Slayer when he visited the original Kuma's location on Belmont Avenue in Chicago. Another favorite is The Famous Kuma, a burger topped with applewood-smoked bacon, cheddar cheese, fried egg, lettuce, tomato and red onion.
Mellody Farm will have plenty of restaurant choices. Other eateries already open or planned include City Works Eatery & Pour House, Lazy Dog Restaurant, Nest Door American Eatery and City Barbecue.
