Panera Bread coming to Orchards at O'Hare development in Des Plaines

This story has been updated to correct the name of the development group behind the Orchids of O'Hare project.

The company behind the $28 million redevelopment of nine acres at Mannheim and Higgins roads in Des Plaines has plans to add a Panera Bread and another restaurant to the development.

Aldermen approved a request by Bask Development this week to construct the 6,727-square-foot building to be occupied by both restaurants at the redevelopment called Orchards at O'Hare. It will be adjacent to the existing McDonald's.

The development also includes a gas station, Dunkin' Donuts, Which Wich Sandwiches restaurant and Holiday Inn, which is under construction. The company also intends to add a car wash and sit-down restaurant to the development.

The Orchards at O'Hare is the result of a long-awaited deal between the city and the Prominence/Bask Development Group approved in 2017.

The city sold the land to the developers for $1.8 million and offered $7.5 million in tax incentives over two decades to develop the blighted property.

The city is expected to approve sale of the land to be occupied by the Panera Bread and the second restaurant at a later city council meeting.
