St. James opens renovated church in Arlington Heights

St. James Catholic Church parishioners get to attend Mass more than a week ahead of time in their newly renovated worship space in Arlington Heights.

The church, 820 N. Arlington Heights Road, received its occupancy permit from the village at the conclusion of its $10.5 million, 10-month construction project. Upgrades included making the church handicapped-accessible, increasing seating from 500 to more than 800, and providing a large inside "gathering" room.

The goal was to open on Easter Sunday, but St. James was able to have its first Masses in the renovated sanctuary Friday. Masses are scheduled for 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and for 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Palm Sunday.
