Salt therapy spa among businesses coming to Arlington Heights

A Himalayan salt therapy spa is among the new businesses coming to downtown Arlington Heights this year.

The Salt Escape, at 70 S. Arlington Heights Road, within Arlington Town Square, is nearing completion of its interior build out, according to Michael Mertes, the village's business development coordinator.

At the business's first location in Batavia, spa-goers spend about an hour at a time in a room surrounded by 30 tons of pink Himalayan salt on the walls and ground. Breathing in the salt particles can help clear pollens, viruses, toxins and other pollutants from the body, according to the company.

"It's good for not just relaxation, but also for people with breathing problems and that sort of thing," Mertes said. "It's popular in Eastern Europe and becoming known here in the U.S. The concept should bring a lot of people to the downtown."

Also in Arlington Town Square, @properties is opening a real estate office. Nearby, For Papa's Sake, a home health care agency, is moving to Dunton Avenue, north of Sigwalt Street.

Beer on the Wall, a craft beer retail store and tasting cafe, is working on the build out of its space at 2 N. Dunton Ave. It received approvals for liquor licenses from the village last November.

Robyn's Nest Boutique, a consignment shop offering new and slightly used clothing, opened last month at 14 S. Evergreen Ave. in the Evergreen Shopping Center.

"Downtown is in demand," Mertes said.
