Have a passion for helping people and want a new career in a growing field?

Prospective students interested in health careers are invited to attend a free information session beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in Room A167 of Oakton Community College's Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave.

Learn industry trends and how Oakton certificates and degrees can prepare students for successful careers. Discover programs for basic nurse assistant training, cannabis dispensary and patient care specialist, cancer registry management, health information technology, medical assistant, medical laboratory technology, nursing, pharmacy technician, phlebotomy and physical therapist assistant.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, health careers are among the fastest growing fields, with 2.1 million new jobs to be added by 2024 due to an aging population and the growing number of people who have access to health insurance.

"These information sessions give students an opportunity to explore potential vocations," says Maribel Alimboyoguen, Oakton assistant dean for health careers.

"Sessions are designed to discuss the nature of health career trends, estimated salary, essential skills and Oakton's prerequisite and application process. Also, students will be able to engage one-on-one with health career faculty and advisers."

Additional health career information sessions this September in Room 200 of the Margaret Burke Lee Science and Health Careers Center (Lee Center) at the Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road, include:
