Bach to Rock music school coming to Arlington Heights

A new music school where aspiring artists can learn how to play, sing and spin is opening in Arlington Heights.

Bach to Rock, 65 W. Rand Road in the Annex of Arlington shopping center, will offer individual and group lessons in piano, voice, guitar, drums and more; a "Rock City" program for preschoolers and "Rock 'n' Roll" for toddlers; beginning piano for children in grades K-2; summer camps; and birthday parties.

The new location also will feature the Beat Refinery DJ School, offering mixing, scratching and music production classes, in what has become a growing trend in the music industry.

A grand opening event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, with tours, free music lessons, toddler "Mommy and Me" classes, prizes, giveaways and performances by instructors.

It's the third Bach to Rock school in Illinois, joining locations in Northbrook and Naperville, and the 40th nationwide.

Bach to Rock leaders say their music school is a twist on traditional music lessons - more akin to team sports, actually - by pairing up students in groups and teams.

"With Bach to Rock, gone are the days of boring and solitary music lessons," company President Brian Gross said in a news release. "Students learn to play today's hits and jam with other kids from the start."
